Starship Starlink Dispenser

Starship Starlink Dispenser

This is what’s commonly called the PEZ dispenser for Starship. It harbors the Starlink satellites version 2 for the Orbital Starship. It can carry about 40 Starlink satellites.

This is the first attempt for SpaceX for integrating a payload system on Starship.

The design of this model is based from real SpaceX photos and renders of the dispenser. My work on designing this model was based on the renders from Yoan Soilen (Starship3D) and from Nick (ChameleonCircuit / Ringwatchers).

The file has three different versions of the Starlink satellites:

  • Single block box of satellites that fits in the dispenser structure
  • “Easy to cut” satellites that will fit inside an open box, which will slide into the dispenser structure
  • “Elaborate to cut” satellites that will fit inside an open box, which will slide into the dispenser structure

My approach to make it functional was to use magnets. But total functionality was not possible due to the size of magnets used and to the thickness of the satellites. Many attempts failed to use opposite magnets on the back wall of the dispenser box with magnets inside the satellites, in order to be “pushed out” of the payload door. The other much simpler idea was to put a magnet on the front edge of each satellite and pulled them out with another magnet one by one. Although this was used, when stacking the satellites on top of each other, all the front magnets grouped together and that approach failed. Another idea can be done by placing a metallic plate on the front of each satellite, instead of using magnets. I know this can be solved in the near future by implementing new ideas. Feel free to send your suggestions.
The model is free to use and to be modified. This is still a work in progress. Enjoy!
