STS-111 Payload / UF-2 / Mobile Base System
Space Shuttle Endeavour was launched on June 5th, 2002 on mission UF-2 to the ISS carrying an important part of the Mobile Servicing System, the Mobile Base System. Other payload elements were the Multipurpose Logistics Module "Leonardo" on its 3rd flight with visual target dots; a spare unit for the Station Robotic Arm, the Wrist-Roll Joint; a Power and Data Grapple Fixture to be added to the P6 truss and the Service Module Debri Panels package 1. The Mobile Base System (MBS) was attached to the already in orbit Mobile Transporter (MT), which was carried aboard STS-110 and placed on the S0 truss. The MBS provides a movable work platform and storage facility for astronauts during EVA's. It has 4 Power & Data Grapple Fixtures and serves as a base for both the Canadarm 2 and DEXTRE. The SDMP panels are part of a Debri Shield measure for the russian Zvezda module. Package 1 consisted of 6 panels (panels 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8). This package was temporarily stored on Unity's PMA-1 during an EVA by astronauts Chang-Diaz and Perrin. Later on Aug 16, 2002, the Expedition 5 crew (Korzun and Peggy Whitson) installed these panels on Zvezda's large diameter cone during an EVA. The rest of the panels will be brought to the station on a future mission, STS-116. Information from different sources were available to make this model as accurate as possible considering the scale. Robotics and EVA information from NASA website was obtained. This module is available via Paypal in both 1:144 and 1:100 versions. Enjoy!!
